My introduction

Following in the footsteps of Ms. Jenny....

Name: Regina, also known as Blue
Home: Jacksonville, FL, late of New Jersey, late of New York
Why do you like Steampunk? I like the blending of the Victorian Era's refined social sensibilities with the possibilities afforded by advanced technology. It also gives me a fantastic world to place over my own life as a veneer when I'm feeling overly mundane; battling traffic on 95 is much more fun when I'm pretending my car is a vanship.
Favorite bit of clothing: My surprisingly versatile black leather waist cincher.
Favorite accessory: My growing assortment of fingerless gloves.
Cake or Pie?: It's like choosing between children... ohhh.... pie.
Best music in the world is?: The Mountain Goats, Sleater Kinney, Neko Case, Vampire Weekend, Rilo Kiley... I could go on, but I'll spare you. ^__^

Do you have a Persona?: Yes.
If so who are they and what's their story: Theodora "Tessa" Racht, American, courier and scout-for-hire. I'm still working on her details.

Now post photos so we know what you look like and can hug you when we see you on the street Here I am! No, I don't know what's up with my hair.

Are you a good egg?: I try.
Pimp your stuff: I'm on the staff of Salon Convention, where I discovered steampunk those many years ago (aka 2006). I also have a few non-steampunk blog projects.
Steampunk heroes: Mina Murray from League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Karen from Code Geass (okay, it's not strictly steampunk, but arguably)

Pirate Jenny stealing the first post.

Since there's only two of us here so far I'll start out with an introduction.  I'm taking the easy way out, though, and comandeering the intro survey from over at Steamfashion:

Name: Pirate Jenny
Home : Gainesville FL
Why do you like Steampunk? I like the blending of genres.  I guess I'm kind of a steam-gypsy-pirate-diesel-pulp-mad-science-industrial-gothic-romantic-patchwork punk. I like the esthetic.  Corsets and vests look good on everyone,  brown leather and lace is always good, and brass, copper, and bronze are the prettiest metals around.  I like the spirit of adventure, exploration, and innovation embraced so heartily. And I LOVE the respect for history that goes along with steampunk (and respect doesn't exclude the fun of make-believe.)
Favorite bit of clothing: I just bought a map fabric corset from Brute Force Leather. I'm going to have a supremely hard time designing any outfits that don't include this piece.
Favorite accessory: My handsome mustachioed husband.
Cake or Pie?: Both
Best music in the world is?: Tom Waits.

Do you have a Persona?:  In progress, maybe.
if so who are they and whats there story: Sky-Pirate Jenny, gunner for the Airship Minerva. But I haven't gotten very far with her yet. Just a thing my friends and I tossed around at Dragoncon.

Now post photos so we know what you look like and can hug you when we see you on the street

Are you a good egg?: Pirate.

Pimp your stuff:  It's too late for this but: Steampunk Picnic.

And now my own addittion to the survey:

Steampunk heroes: Theodore Roosevelt, Nicola Tesla, and my grandfather

Introduction and Rules

Greetings, and welcome to the Northeast Florida* Steampunk** Livejournal Community. Its purpose is self-explanatory: a forum for residents of the Northeast Florida area to discuss steampunk. I hope it will be a worthwhile experience for all involved.

* And when I say "Northeast Florida," that includes the immediate surrounding areas, such as Southeast Georgia.
** ...and when I say "steampunk," that includes other retro-futuristic genres, such as dieselpunk.

A few ground rules:

1. Please treat each other with respect and courtesy. We are sure to have the occasional disagreement, but flame wars, slander, etc. will be removed by a moderator.
2. If you want to advertise another Livejournal community, please seek permission from a moderator first.
3. If you are posting more than two pictures, or pictures larger than 300x300, please put them behind a cut tag.
4. Please stay on topic. If your post has nothing to do with steampunk or Northeast Florida, it is subject to removal by a moderator.
5. If you are selling merchandise or planning an event, please feel free to advertise your business, as long as it relates to steampunk.
6. With regards to adult content: please keep profanity and explicit speech within a PG-13 rating. Pictures of non-sexually explicit nudity are allowed, as long as they are behind a cut tag and marked as not safe for work (NSFW).
And, most importantly,
7. When docking your airship, please make sure it is securely fastened to the pier. Management is not responsible for lost or stolen zeppelins.
